What is SSD?

SSD stands for Solid State Drive or Solid State Disk. The best thing about SSD is that they have no moving parts (mechanical) inside, and they are very reliable. They are much much faster compare to hard drive. SSD are totally different from others drives (like hard drive, floppy disk etc). They doesn't make noise, as compare to hard drive which do noise while in the process. They are expensive but price is getting down day by day.Comparing the price of the hard drive and SSD you will find the huge difference, as SSD would be 6 to 7 times more expensive. They are mostly based on NAND flash memory in which if the power is cut off there is no chance to lose the data. SSD have the best ability of fast access into the applications. SSD can have the data access ability completely but not electro-mechanically. SSD have best and fast transfer speed. While if we see Hard drive at the same price we will find the more capacity compare to SSD, but the slower speed compare to SSD.
So, regarding speed performance we assure that SSD are more reliable than hard drives.
In a Hard drive when a file is re-written it will posses the same location, but in case of SSD the new copy file will be written to the distinctive NAND cells.
The following are the some basic characteristics of SSD:
  • Their transfer speed range is 100 MB/s to 600 MB/s.
  • They have no mechanical noise of moving parts, although their is some possibility of circuit noise inside SSD.
  • They doesn't require to get cool in high temperature compare to HDD which need to be cool.
  • One of the best positive point about the SSD is they or non sensitive, if you move them they are not easy to expose circuitry.
Although in the Hard drives we have much capacity with the low price but HDD are usually easy to loss the data which is risky. But in the Solid State Drives they or not easy to loss, we can move the laptop while we doing some kind of task. The better performance SSD gives.
Solid State Drives are expensive but there is a hope the price would become much lower in the future compare to the present day price.
