What is Optical fiber?

What is Optical Fiber? Fiber optics is the technology to transmit data through the light. Optical fiber cables are the cables which contains one or more optical fiber use to transmit the light. The Optical fiber elements coated individually with plastic. They have the ability to transmit data up to the long distance with very lower number of losses.
Structure:
Optical fiber consist of layers called fiber core layer and the cladding layer.
Both they have difference in refractive index, so they are selected for the total internal reflection. The core contain higher refractive index while the cladding contains lower refractive index.
The buffer coating is the mechanical protection they doesn't affect the performance of the optical fiber layers.
Some Advantages:
Optical fibers are most useful than the other ones.

  • They are capable of transmitting data up to long distances with very few losses.
  • They are most better than copper with no or very few losses.
  • They are much thinner and lighter as compare to the metal wires.
  • They are capable of transmit data digitally.
